Praying Through James

Part 1: James 1:1-5

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,

To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion:

Greetings.

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

My Prayer:

Father,

Here I am.

I am a servant and son.

Today I feel like the former.

But my heart breaks to be the latter.

I am desperately trying to find joy in this day.

You said to count it all joy when I go through trials of many kinds.

It is the testing of my faith, the development of perseverance.

Grant me my portion of perseverance today.

Give me the strength to go on.

Grace me with the fortitude of my mind to believe:

To believe only in You,

To put my hope in You,

To place my trust in You,

And Your promises.

You said that perseverance must finish its work so that I may be complete and lacking nothing.

I sit at the precipice of giving up,

Yet, my faith falls prostrate upon You.

I trust Your words.

Let perseverance have its complete work within me.

I want to make it to the finish line.

Create me into a mature person of God-

A person not devoid of any fruit of the Spirit,

A  person full of integrity,

A person boiling with passion,

Bursting with joy,

Fragrant with love.
